FSSAI veg / non-veg mark rules

Every pre-packaged food in India carries a vegetarian or non-vegetarian mark. Here is the exact FSSAI symbol, its size and where it goes — and how LabelYog derives it from your recipe.

The vegetarian mark

A green-filled circle inside a square with a green outline, shown on the principal display panel next to the name of the product.

The non-vegetarian mark

A brown-filled triangle inside a square with a brown outline. FSSAI changed the non-veg symbol from a brown circle to a triangle in 2021 so colour-blind consumers can tell it apart from the green veg circle.

Size and placement

The square's side is twice the diameter of the symbol inside it, and the size scales with the principal display panel — for a panel up to 100 cm² the minimum is a 3 mm symbol in a 6 mm square. The mark sits on the principal display panel, close to the product name.
