FSSAI labelling for imported food

An imported food sold in India carries the country of origin and the importer's details on top of the usual FSSAI particulars — here is the label.

Country of origin

An imported pre-packaged food declares its country of origin — 'Country of Origin: <country>' — so the consumer knows where it was made.

Importer name, address and FSSAI licence

The label carries the name and complete address of the importer, and the FSSAI logo with the importer's FSSAI licence number. Where the manufacturer and the importer differ, both are shown.

All the usual FSSAI particulars still apply

The name of the food, the ingredient list, the nutrition panel, the veg / non-veg mark, the allergen declaration, net quantity, MRP, and the manufacture and best-before / expiry dates all appear, in English or Hindi.

Stickers before customs clearance

Details specific to import — the importer's name and FSSAI licence, the veg / non-veg mark, or the country of origin — may be added by a firmly affixed, non-removable sticker before the consignment is cleared, provided nothing already on the label is obscured.
