FSSAI principal display panel (PDP) rules

The principal display panel is the part of the pack a consumer sees first. FSSAI follows the Legal Metrology rules for its area and what it must carry.

What the principal display panel is

The principal display panel (PDP) is the part of the label presented or visible under normal conditions of display. For the labelling area, FSSAI follows the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

How the PDP area is calculated

Under the Packaged Commodities Rules: for a rectangular pack where one side is the principal display panel, the area is the height multiplied by the width of that side; for a cylindrical or nearly cylindrical pack it is 40% of the height multiplied by the circumference; for any other shape it is 40% of the total surface. Tops, bottoms, flanges, and the shoulders and necks of bottles and jars are excluded.

What must appear on the PDP

The name of the food, the net quantity and the retail sale price (MRP) are shown on the principal display panel, and the veg / non-veg mark sits on the PDP close to the name. The FSSAI logo with the licence number appears on the label.

How LabelYog handles it

LabelYog fits the mandatory declarations to the trim size you print and places the veg / non-veg mark and the FSSAI logo to specification.
