EAC food labelling requirements (EAS 38)

The East African Community labels food to the standard EAS 38:2014, live across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda — each member giving it national force.

EAS 38:2014, the East African Standard

EAS 38:2014 is the harmonised East African labelling standard. It becomes compulsory in each Partner State through that state's own declaration, so LabelYog cites the destination member's own instrument, never Brussels.

Nutrition and mandatory particulars

The nutrition declaration is per 100 g / 100 ml (with the sodium row per EAS 803). The label carries the food name, ingredient list, allergen declaration, net quantity, the date of manufacture and the expiry or best-before date, and storage conditions.

Language

Mandatory particulars appear in English and, where required, the language of the importing Partner State.

Live members

Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda are live, each on its verified national force chain; further members light as their adoption is verified at bureau grade.
