FDA front-of-package nutrition labeling
FDA's proposed Nutrition Info box would show saturated fat, sodium and added sugars with Low, Med or High on the front of pack — proposed, not final.
A proposed rule, not yet in force
In January 2025 FDA issued a proposed rule for a mandatory front-of-package "Nutrition Info" box. It is a proposal only — it is subject to a public comment period and is not yet in effect. Any compliance dates would follow a final rule, so nothing is required on packs today.
What the box would show
The proposed box would display saturated fat, sodium and added sugars. Each nutrient would carry its % Daily Value together with a rating of "Low", "Med" or "High", giving shoppers a quick read at the shelf.
Where it would appear
The box would sit on the principal display panel — the front of the pack — of most packaged foods that already carry a Nutrition Facts label. It complements the back-of-pack Nutrition Facts panel; it does not replace it.
What to do now
Because the rule is proposed and not final, keep building compliant Nutrition Facts panels today and watch for a final rule and its compliance dates. When the front-of-package box is finalized, LabelYog will build it onto the principal display panel — LabelYog builds it from your recipe.
