There is no single nutrition panel
A nutrition label generator that produces one panel is producing a US panel and calling it universal. The mandatory content, the rounding, the reference amount and the permitted formats all differ by destination, and a panel that is correct in one market can be non-compliant in the next.
LabelYog renders 13 regimes, and each one is held to the instrument that governs it rather than to a shared default. The rounding citation alone differs across twelve named instruments: Reg. (EU) No 1169/2011 guidance for the EU and the UK, FSANZ Schedule 12 for Australia, the FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations 2020 for India, TR CU 022/2011 for the EAEU, EAS 38:2014 for the East African Community, CRS 5:2010 for CARICOM, GSO 2233 for the GCC, CFIA rounding for Canada, the LIV (SR 817.022.16) Arts 21-28 with Annexes 9-12 for Switzerland, the Food Labeling Standards for Japan, ANVISA RDC 429/2020 with GMC 46/03 for MERCOSUR, and 21 CFR 101.9 for the United States.
That list is not decoration. It is the difference between a panel a regulator accepts and one they do not, and it is why the same recipe produces visibly different numbers depending on where you are shipping.
US rounding: 21 CFR 101.9, increment by increment
Rounding is where most self-built panels fail, because the rule is not 'two decimal places'. 21 CFR 101.9 sets a DIFFERENT increment for each nutrient, and each one has a threshold below which the value must be declared as zero.
CALORIES: under 5 declare 0; from 5 to 50 round to the nearest 5; above 50 round to the nearest 10.
FAT, SATURATED FAT and TRANS FAT: under 0.5 g declare 0; under 5 g round to the nearest 0.5 g; at 5 g and above round to the nearest 1 g.
CARBOHYDRATE, FIBRE, SUGARS, ADDED SUGARS and PROTEIN: under 0.5 g declare 0; otherwise round to the nearest 1 g.
SODIUM: under 5 mg declare 0; from 5 to 140 mg round to the nearest 5 mg; above 140 mg round to the nearest 10 mg.
POTASSIUM: under 94 mg declare 0, otherwise the nearest 10 mg. CALCIUM: under 26 mg declare 0, otherwise the nearest 10 mg. IRON: under 0.36 mg declare 0, otherwise the nearest 0.1 mg. VITAMIN D: under 0.4 mcg declare 0, otherwise the nearest 0.1 mcg.
The percent Daily Value figures use the 2, 5 and 10 increments of 101.9(c)(8)(iii). Note that PROTEIN carries no %DV by default: 101.9(c)(7) makes it conditional, and declaring it triggers a protein quality obligation most products do not want to take on.
Servings per container, and the word 'about'
Servings per container has its own rounding, and it is not the same as the nutrients'. Under 2 the panel declares 1; under 5 round to the nearest half; at 5 and above round to the nearest whole.
A container holding less than 2 servings is a SINGLE-SERVING container under 101.9(b)(6), and the whole package must be labelled as one serving. That is a structural change to the panel, not a rounding nicety.
And where the serving count is not a whole number, 101.9 is why the panel says 'about 3 servings' rather than '3 servings'. The word is doing legal work.
Serving size is not your choice: 21 CFR 101.12
The most common misconception about a nutrition label generator is that you pick the serving size. You do not. 21 CFR 101.12 Table 2 sets a Reference Amount Customarily Consumed -- the RACC -- for each food category, and the declared serving is derived from it.
That is what stops a manufacturer declaring a 15 g serving of a food people eat 60 g of, and reporting a quarter of the calories. Choosing the category correctly matters more than any other input on the form.
If your food is not listed in Table 2, the regulation itself tells you what to do: 101.12(b) directs you to the RACC of the most similar listed food. LabelYog does exactly that and SAYS SO on the label file, naming the category it borrowed from, because a derived RACC that looks like a read one is the kind of thing that fails an audit quietly.
Canada does not use the US table. Health Canada publishes its own reference amounts, and the app maps each category to the specific Canadian row rather than reusing the American figure.
The declared serving leads with the common household measure and gives the metric quantity in parentheses -- '2/3 cup (55 g)' -- which is the order 101.9(b)(7) requires. The household measure itself is not free text: the regulation enumerates the lawful ones, and a typed-in measure that is not on that list is a defect.

Questions
Can I choose my own serving size?
No. 21 CFR 101.12 Table 2 sets a Reference Amount Customarily Consumed for each food category and the declared serving is derived from it. If your food is not listed, 101.12(b) directs you to the most similar listed food -- which LabelYog does and discloses rather than substituting silently.
Why does my panel say 0 g of fat when my recipe has some?
Because 21 CFR 101.9 requires it. Fat below 0.5 g per serving is declared as 0. That is the regulation rounding, not the calculator losing your number -- and the threshold differs per nutrient: sodium is 5 mg, potassium 94 mg, iron 0.36 mg.
Is the US panel valid in other markets?
No. The mandatory content, the rounding instrument and the permitted formats all differ. Twelve regimes have their own named rounding instrument and only the United States uses 21 CFR 101.9. Build the panel for the destination.
Why does the panel say 'about 3 servings'?
21 CFR 101.9 requires it where the serving count is not exact. The word is part of the declaration, not filler.
